The Medical Taping Concept was developed in Japan and Korea in the 1970s. In this development, the focus was on the study of movement (kinesiology) and knowledge about muscle activity in the human body. Is a therapeutic taping technique which alleviates pain and facilitates lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin. This lifting affect forms convolutions in the skin increasing interstitial space and allowing for decreased inflammation in affected areas. This special tape helps to improve circulation, supports injured muscles and joints and helps relieve pain by lifting the skin and allowing improved blood and lymph flow. The tape can usually stay in place between 3-5 days even while showering or exercising. In contrast to the conventional tape method, which often aims to limit the joints with inextensible material, this tape method achieves an “increase of mobility” by improving function.
